The Point of Revelation!

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead (Rev 1:17)

So often we get lost in the ‘end times’ debate of Revelation and completely forget the point of the book. In Rev 1, we witness John’s response to the risen Christ (v17). This is the result of seeing Jesus in all His heavenly glory (v12-16). Have we ever stopped to consider these few lines in one of the most avoided books of the Bible?

John was the closest of any disciples to Jesus YET when we saw Jesus in Rev 1, all he could do was fall at His feet as dead! WOW! After following Jesus for nearly 30 years, only last year did I come face to face with the reality of Jesus as John saw Him. Words still cannot describe the experience or my renewed passion to follow Him. It has strengthened my faith dramatically; expanded my understanding of Jesus greatly and given me confidence in Him and the direction that He leads us in life.

What also astonishes me is Jesus’intimacy with John. As John responds in awe, Jesus who is the first and the last and the living one, puts His right hand on John. You know it is not the hand of restraint, correction, or chastisement, but the right hand of the Everlasting Father (Oswald Chambers). If you have ever doubted God’s love for us and His plan to redeem us, let this remind you again that Hecomes to us. What an amazing God!

Have you seen Jesus in His heavenly glory as John did? Do you personally know the resurrected Jesus as described in Rev 1? If the Spirit doesn’t burn within you when you hear that question or you are not sure, the answer is no! Beg Jesus to reveal Himself to you in this way my friend!

The point of Revelation is that the glorious, all powerful saviour and Son of God, Jesus Christ, stands in Heaven with final victory assured, while reaching out to encourage those who respond to Him despite the challenges that will come. The early church confidently understood this and Jesus used them to impact the world. Who is up for that again, right here and now?!? WE ARE!
