While the videos are well presented, they still do nothing more than justify one’s ability to set their own personal morality so long as it hurts no one else directly. I agree that we cannot legislate the Bible but I do believe that we are all guided by our conscience and the natural or moral law that is given within our conscience. If this is the case, is our conscience capable of being corrupted? The atheistic clips talk about uneducated people making immoral decisions out of ignorance but do you think that as a society, we can become so educated and knowledgeable that our consciences become corrupted? They say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely right? Why has every great empire in the history of the world fallen? It starts within the breakdown of the fabric of society. Arrogance sets in and they believe them immortal and infallible. Do you agree history teaches us this? Why then would this 'new' philosophy of atheism lead a society to any other different outcome besides a self-induced implosion? We must be careful not to become Gnostics and think that education is the moral savior of mankind.
If the individuals of a community had their consciences corrupted through propaganda and desensitization through the media, does that mean they are still capable of making good moral judgment? It doesn't mean that they will justify every immoral act as being acceptable but once a person's conscience has been corrupted in a specific area of immorality, by reason, surely they are unable to speak with authority on the morality of that subject.
The clip also says that majority rules do not indicate a moral ruling and I agree. What if it is the most educated and powerful countries in the world making immoral judgments through a corrupt conscience? Who are they accountable too? Do you agree this could happen? I would suggest that we are seeing this happening already. Why are the figures for crime, STD’s, suicide, divorce, violence, rape, etc all escalating over the last few decades? Wasn't the free love of the 60’s and 70’s supposed to release us from religion and bring us together in harmony? All the 60’s did was inoculate society towards God. How is that working out for us?
What about Ho Chi Minh in VN and Mao Zedong in China. China as a country today is the first prototype of a country purposely founded and developed with an atheistic philosophy, intentionally void of God. Have you checked out their human rights records lately? The moral police just beat a woman so bad because she was 7 months pregnant with her second child. The 7 month old was killed through their actions. How is life in a godless China going these days for the average person?
How do you explain the teenage suicides at Bridgend in Wales over the last decade or longer? They are choosing to kill themselves and not harming anyone else in the process. Are their actions moral based on the atheistic moral code? The clip says atheistic morality is gained through, “improved education, graduating punishment, prohibiting needless harm, recognizing differences, cultivating attitudes of cooperation and compromise”. Based on this, there is no reason to conclude the teenagers were acting immorally by taking their own lives. They were educated no doubt and only trying to prohibit their own pain and harm that they were personally feeling. Is this correct reasoning under atheistic moral philosophy?
I also find it interesting that the moral philosophy of atheism as presented in the clips uses science as part of its foundation. How do the physical and meta-physical relate to each other? Isn’t science the discovery of the physical aspects of our universe? I love science and have studied it as part of my Engineering degree but why do people assume the physical sciences as the benchmark and authority for the meta-physical and philosophical spheres of life?
The reason I love science is that is helps us discover the wonderful physical aspect of the world we live in. As an engineering designer, I marvel at the amazing design aspects of nature pointing towards a creative designer. The probability of what I see in this world coming into being through chance from nothing borders on impossible. How can we as educated and intelligent people, fail to accredit the inconceivable detail and attention that has gone into each and every plant, animal and mineral to a universal architect. Is the faith needed to believe this all came from chance less than the faith needed to believe that there is a transcendent designer and creator behind this breath-taking universe? How do we explain the amazing literary work of the Bible and resurrection of Christ among other things. The historical evidence for the resurrection of Christ cannot be ignored and if this is true, then His teaching that He is the Son of God must also be true. The evidence before us of a transcendent being is unavoidable. Ravi Zacharias also gives reason to the need for God in this clip.
I have lived and worked throughout Asia as a student and engineer and have experienced animism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and many other religions and cults that are out there. I have seen men and women all over the world trying to reach God through man-made religion but failing miserably. The further we walk away from God and try to take His place, the more corrupt our conscience becomes and the less our ability becomes to make moral decisions. Sin is what is corrupting our consciences and it robs us of the ability to make moral decisions. When we create something, we know it better than anyone else ever will. God made us and He knows what is best for us and gave us a conscience to guide us, to be our moral guide. When we begin to ignore the operating instructions from the designer, we begin to malfunction!
Every person has have every right to believe what we wish and I will respect you either way but I urge you to think through the evidence before you yourself and weigh it up. Just because you might think something true doesn't make it true. I believe that one day will have to give account for the evidence that we have been exposed to and if we are not ready, it’s going to be an uncomfortable eternity apart from God in hell. Guys like CS Lewis and Lee Strobel were avid skeptics of Jesus Christ and highly respected professionals in their respective fields but there personal investigations to disprove God led them to one conclusion, that God is real and Christ is who He said He was, the Son of God.
My conclusion in life so far is that morality cannot be relative (self-defeating) but instead must be absolute. An absolute morality cannot be defined by man but only by a transcendent being apart from man. This transcendent Being is the God of the Bible whose existence is evident through creation, the Bible and the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
